Trail Searching

Use the Map Control tool (figure 1.) to zoom in and out of the map, using the crosshairs (figure 2.) as the centre point.  You can also double click on a place on the map to zoom into it.

To pan around the map, either use the arrows on the Map Control tool (figure 1.), or use click and drag with your mouse.

To bring up details for a particular track, click on the track marker (figure 3.).  To see the full track details click on “Read more on this track” within the track balloon window.

You can use the filters to the right of the map (figures 4 and 5) to refine the type of tracks you are searching for.

Another way to find a particular track is to search for it.  Above the map there is a link to ‘search for a specific track’.

Trail Submitting

To submit a new 4wd track, zoom in and place the crosshairs where the track starts.  Click on Submit Track (figure 6.).

On the 4x4 Track Submit page, use your mouse to hover over the blue Info buttons to view more details on each field you need to populate.  The latitude and longitude fields are pre-populated by the location you zoomed in on previously, and cannot be changed here.

Adding a Track/Trail File 

Note: If you plan on submitting a GPS track file, you must first enable popups in your browser for 4x4 Earth.  Click here to see how to do this.

In order to upload a gps track file, you need to select 'yes' at 'Import GPS track file:', as shown in figure 7.  If you didn't have a gps with you when last at the moon 4wd-ing, simply go back and redo the trail with a GPS.  Easy!

After you submit the track details, a popup window will be shown (figure 8).  Here you can select the your track file.  We support most track file type as can be seen in the drop down menu.  Select your GPS file type, then browse for your track file.  Click on Upload File when done.

Note:  If you later edit your track, the 'Import GPS track file' option will default to 'yes'.  Select 'no' if you do not wish to replace the current track file, otherwise simply close the popup.  You cannot remove a track file once uploaded.  Please contact us if you would like us to remove it for you.
